Mary Melonas
Mary E. Melonas was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on June 7, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family, she was 79. Ms. Melonas was born on January 15, 1934 to Juan Ortega and Dolores Vallejos Ortega in San Mateo, New Mexico.
Ms. Melonas was a life long resident of the Grants area. She was deeply devoted to her Lord, Jesus Christ to whom she prayed, she was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, where she cherished her perpetual adoration hours. Ms. Melonas enjoyed being outside, gardening and walking, but she will best be remembered as a loving, and caring Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mom, Grandma and Friend. She was dearly loved and will be missed; her legacy will live on forever.
Ms. Melonas is survived by her children; Esther Melonas of Rio Rancho, NM., Rosemary Tafoya and husband David of Grants, Anthony Melonas Jr also of Grants, and Dolores Ahlheim and husband Karl of London, England. Her grandchildren; Judith Gonzales, Adrianna Gonzales, Jared Tafoya, Isaac Tafoya, Adrian Tafoya, Michael Melonas, Monique Ahlheim, Michael Ahlheim, and Nicholas Ahlheim. Her great-grandchildren; Anjolee Saavedra, Kylie Tafoya, Isaiah Tafoya, Alethea Tafoya, Gabriella Gonzales, and one on the way. Her sister; Adela "Della" Marez. Her brother; Fidencio "Fide" Ortega and wife Lupe, and Salomon Ortega. Brother-in-law; Jose Huerta. Nephew; Alfonso Ortega and wife Janine. And friend; Levi Ascencio, along with numerous other nephews, nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Anthony "Tony" Melonas Sr., on April 12, 2004. Her parents; Juan and Dolores Ortega. Her sister; Helen Huerta. Her brother; Antonio "Tony" Ortega and wife Flora. Her brother-in-law; Arthur Marez.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm, a Rosary will then be recited at 7:00 pm. On Thursday June 13, 2013 also at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church at 9:00 am, A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph Madanu. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. A reception will follow services at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Pallbearers include; David Tafoya, Jared Tafoya, Isaac Tafoya, Adrian Tafoya, Alfonso Ortega and Levi Ascencio.
Honorary Pallbearers include; All of her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is entrusted with arrangements.
