Mary "Lily" Garcia was embraced by our Lord in Heaven on Thursday, January 1st, 2015. Lily began her life in Farmington, NM on April, 21st, 1935. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1953, and attended New Mexico Highlands University in LasVegas, NM for a short time before returning back to Farmington. She married James Garcia in November 1959, and they were married for 40 years. Lily worked for the NM State Unemployment Office and retired from there for a more demanding position as full-time Mom. Lily was a master seamstress, she made everything from wedding gowns to sleeping bags. Once her kids were grown, Lily turned her attention to quilting. Her quest for perfection and attention to detail showed in her work. Many of her quilts and wall hangings won awards at regional fairs/bazaars as well as the NM State Fair. Lily was also a self-proclamied farm girl and her love for digging in the dirt never waned. Lily lived life to the fullest, she loved music and would twirl around the dance floor with the best of them. She always had a welcoming smile on her face and something delicious to eat for any guest in her home. Lily is preceded in death by her husband, James Garcia. She is survived by her son, Michael C. Tafoya and wife, Debra, both of LaPlata; daughters Patricia M. McDonald and husband Robert of Tennessee, and Monica K. Garcia of Albuqueruque, NM; two brothers Navor "Buddy" Tafoya of Farmington, NM, and Johnny Tafoya of Scottsdale, AZ. Lily had seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, as well as a great-great grandchild, whom she adored.
A rosary will be prayed 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2015, at St. Mary's Parish, 307 Church Street, Bloomfield, NM. A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 10, 2015, at St. Mary's Parish in Bloomfield, NM.
