Marvie Woods-Thomson

Marvie Woods-Thomson was called home Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, good friend and inspiration to all. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and we are all very thankful to have learned what true love is from such a wonderful woman. Marvie had a loving caring nature, always willing to serve and put the needs of others before her own, and was quick to make lifelong friends making everyone feel much better for knowing her.
Marvie was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on November 7th, 1926, to Ralph and Mary Jones. She attended elementary school in Springer, NM with the remainder of her schooling in Albuquerque where she graduated high school in 1944, and then went to the University of New Mexico for three years before she fell in love and was married to her first husband Gordon Woods.
On September 22nd, 1951 Marvie and Gordon Woods were married, and moved to Farmington where they co-owned Woods Insurance Company with Gordon's brother-in-law Herb Dickinson and Sister Louise, remaining in business until 1984. During this time, Marvie and Gordon raised three children, with Marvie spending most of her time at home with her kids making a loving wonderful home for her family, while also working at Woods Insurance part time doing the book keeping and overseeing the general finances of the company.
In 1985, Marvie and Gordon sold the business and retired due to Gordon having health problems, which allowed them to enjoy life to the fullest to do whatever they wanted and spend quality time with their children and grandchildren, until Gordon's death in 1999.
Throughout her many years in Farmington, Marvie had a very active life in the community, which included serving on the Board of Directors for San Juan Regional Medical Center, being the past president and a longtime member of San Juan Hospital Auxiliary, serving as a life time member and past president of P.E.O., being an active member of First United Methodist Church and enjoying service in numerous positions for over fifty years, and serving in many capacities for the Republican Party. In 2000, Marvie was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow award given by Rotary International, in recognition for her many years of service above self in the community.
In 2001, after being pursued and persuaded to date again by an older gentlemen at church, Marvie found love once more and was married to Bill Thomson, on June 9th. With both Marvie and Bill being long time members of First United Methodist Church, both loving to spend time playing games with friends and family, and with both of them having a deep appreciation for companionship, they had much in common and greatly enjoyed their time together for the past 16 years.
Survivors include her brother Keith Jones and wife, Marta, husband Bill Thomson, three children Gayle Krens and husband, Ron, Brenda Rivera and husband, Freddy, Scott Woods and wife, Angie, all of Farmington: 11 grandchildren: Amber Deenihan and husband Thomas, Shannon Szumlinski and husband Danny, Keisha Farnsworth and husband Byron, Kaitlyn and Mikayla Krens, Addie Betancourt, Jeremy Betancourt and wife April, Tristin Betancourt, Hailey Bingham and husband Blake, Mitchell and Marah Woods: and 12 great grandchildren.
