Marilyn Mattila passed away on December 31, 2019 in Grants, New Mexico, at 85 years of age. She was born on September 5, 1934 in Ishpeming, Michigan.
Mrs. Mattila was a long time licensed practical nurse serving the community with Dr. Fjord’s medical office for 25 years, then having worked at Cibola General Hospital as an LPN and in the medical records department, she then worked at Southwest Dental before retirement. She enjoyed crafting and audiobooks. Mrs. Mattila was a devoted member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. She was the matriarch of the family and was often entertaining at her home. She was loved and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her four children; Randy Mattila and his wife Ann, Lynn Fuell and her husband Gordon, Barbara Baca and her husband Joey, and Dr. Jeffrey Ray Mattila and his wife Carla. 6 grandchildren; Dr. Arika Oesterle, Jerrod Fuell, Dr. Derrick Baca, Dr. Desiree Baca, Justin Mattila, Jordan Mattila. 6 great-grandchildren; Hunter Fuell, Shaylee Fuell, Kylie Fuell, Emma Baca, Blake Baca, and Layla Tillman. One sister; Barbara Anderson-Roy. Along with numerous other relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jalmer Ray Mattila. Her parents; Wilfred Rock and Delia LaFave Rock. Her grandson; Dustin Baca. Her siblings; Les Rock and Bernadine Sanders.
On Friday January 3, 2020 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church a viewing will be held from 12:00-1:00 pm, a Rosary will be then recited at 1:00 pm led by Deacon Edward Olona. At 1:30 pm a Mass will be celebrated by Father John Paul Sauter. Interment will follow at Grants Memorial Park.
Pallbearers include; Dr. Arika Oesterle, Jerrod Fuell, Dr. Derrick Baca, Dr. Desiree Baca, Justin Mattila, Jordan Mattila.
Honorary Pallbearers include; Dustin Baca, Hunter Fuell, Shaylee Fuell, Kylie Fuell, Emma Baca, Blake Baca, and Layla Tillman.
Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to St. Teresa of Avila School.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is entrusted with arrangements.
