Marilene Joy (Bloomfield) Blair

September 26, 1919 — March 16, 2013

Marilene Joy (Bloomfield) Blair, 93, of Farmington, passed peacefully and was reunited with her beloved husband, Raymond Blair, on Saturday afternoon, March 16th, one day after Raymond's birthday. Marilene was raised at Todalena Trading Post, the daughter of George and Lucy Bloomfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, a son, James Raymond, a great-grandson, Joshua Higgins and a granddaughter, Samantha LaNell Blair, several siblings, grandparents and both her parents and Raymond's as well. Marilene was the mother of three and was survived by her daughter Diane Blair, son, Michael and his lovely wife LaNell. She was the Grandmother of twenty-five; the great-grandmother of nine and the great- great grandmother of six. She spent many wonderful years on the reservation working as an Indian Trader with her husband and greatly loved the Native American families she became close to. Raymond and Marilene owned and operated Rock Point, Round Rock and Mancos Creek Trading Posts. She met Raymond as a pen pal through a magazine called Ranch Romances. They corresponded for three years and when Raymond was mustered out of the Marine Corps he traveled to Gallup by train and met Marilene there. He asked if she wanted a "Stromberry" Ice Cream Cone which was accepted; they were married four months later. Thus a little red haired girl from Toadalena Trading Post met and married a Marine from Hoot Owl Howler, Kentucky, which is a delightful story that all her posterity cherishes. In correspondents Raymond referred to her as his little "Red Pepper" and always signed his letter as Your Darling Raymond. Visitation for Marilene will be held on Friday, March 22nd, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main Street, Farmington. In lieu of flowers or gifts, a donation may be made to The Gingerich Home for the Elderly, c/o Aden Gingerich, 15 Road 5577, Farmington, NM 87401. The people at the Gingerich home were so very good to Marilene. Marilene is in the care of Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute Street, Farmington (505)325-8688.
