Vivian Marie Hernasy, 91, of Farmington, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, in Farmington. She was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Ft. Belknap, Mont. to Aloysuis Blackbird and Marie Thunderpipe. She was born for the Gros Ventre, Blackfoot, and Assiniboine Tribes.
Vivian met her loving husband in Lawton, Okla. They moved and settled in Farmington. Vivan, known as Grandma Woobies, hobbies included sewing, crocheting, reading and attending powwows. She was a member of the Intertribal Veterans Association. Her greatest gift to us was her sense of humor. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother; who's greatest passion was her family.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Ross Hernasy Sr.; son, Kenneth Hernasy; parents, Aloysuis Blackbird and Marie Thunderpipe; brother, Joseph Blackbird; sister, Evelyn Blackbird; and grandchild, Bryce King. She is survived by her son, Charlie Ross Hernasy Jr.; daughters, Sharon King and Carla Lente; grandchildren, Paul Peshlakai, Michael Peshlakai, Sheryl Peshlakai, Amanda Tom, Carlton Hernasy Sr., Catrina Hernasy, Caleena Hernasy, Christopher Hernasy, Candace Lente, Timree Lente and Michelle Lente.
A viewing will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 14 at the Cope Memorial Chapel of Farmington, 404 W. Arrington St. prior to a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. officiated by Reverend Myron Lizer. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington. A reception will be held at the World Harvest Center, 1024 N. Butler Ave. in Farmington.
Pallbearers are Camerin Peshlakai, Maurice Peshlakai, Damion Peshlakai, Jakub Peshlakai, Uriah Peshlakai, Carlton Hernasy Jr. Jerome Black and Malcolm Hernasy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wells Fargo in the Vivian Hernasy Memorial Fund.
