Margaret Mary Mortensen joined her husband and loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, six days after her 86th birthday. She passed peacefully at home with her loving children by her side. She was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Wichita, Kan., to Lewis Shane and Mary Worthington Shane. Margaret was the youngest of six children and was adored, as she was the baby of the family. She was raised in Baltimore, Md. and in Mesa, Ariz. It was in Mesa where she met and married her sweetheart, Leone Louis Mortensen. They were sealed in the LDS Temple in Mesa, Ariz., on Sept. 19, 1946. Leone's employment would take them to many places across the United States, but they would spent most of their years in Mesa. Margaret had a cheerful, happy disposition and had a wonderful smile. She loved to help others and served as a Primary and Relief Society President in her church. She enjoyed working in the yard with her children and loved growing things. She loved singing. dancing and watching old movies with her grandchildren. They loved playing Chinese Checkers with her and sometimes she would let them win! She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for the many cards and letters they would receive over the years, always filled with loving stickers hand picked just for them. She never missed a birthday or any special occasion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leone; her parents, Lewis and Mary Shane and four of her older siblings, Don, Dale, Darlene and Bruce. She is survived by her oldest sister, Carol Gavin, and her loving children and their spouses, Kenneth (Sue) Mortensen, Rhenda (Jim) Wilson, Gina (Van) Coleman, Kirby (Janette) Mortensen, Glen (Cindy) Mortensen and Todd (Lisa) Mortensen and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Gina Coleman for the loving way she cared for our mother especially during the last months of her life.
