Margaret Theresa Wood Mitchell

Margaret Theresa Wood Mitchell of Farmington New Mexico entered the gates of heaven at the age of 96 on Friday, January 6, 2023.  She was born on September 25, 1926, in Montezuma, Georgia to Horatio Bradford Wood and Lynnie May Bartley. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington, New Mexico. Margaret loved working on crossword puzzles, enjoyed reading, and loved John Wayne and western movies. Margaret always wanted to make sure all children were cared for, and she was a devoted giver to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She never wanted anyone to be hungry and faithfully gave to Echo Food Bank. Margaret had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs.

Margaret is preceded in death by her husband James Lloyd Mitchell, parents Horatio and Lynnie, brother John Bradford Wood, and sisters Sara Wood, Maude Wood, Cora Wood, Mary Wood, and Lynnie Wood. She is survived by her nephews Ron (Kim) Gault of Alabama, Luke (Heather) Gault of Mississippi, and Jason (Dana) Gault of Alabama. She is also survived by special friends Darren and Kristi Baysinger of Farmington, New Mexico, and Darian and Brandi Garcia of Flora Vista, New Mexico.

Services for Margaret will be Friday, January 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church located at 865 N. Dustin Avenue in Farmington, NM. Reverend Dr. Milad Nakhla will officiate her service. Following the church service, there will be a private graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Darren Baysinger, Darian Garcia, Jordyn Garcia, and Marcus Vigil. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Gault, Luke Gault, and Jason Gault. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Margaret’s name to the Farmington Animal Shelter.

We would like to especially thank the entire staff on the 5th floor of San Juan Regional Medical Center who showed such compassionate care for “Maggie” during her final days.
