Mabel Gloria Mestas, 87, a resident of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 in her home. She was born Aug. 31, 1925 in Alamosa, Colo., the daughter of Juan Francisco Mestas aka Frank Mestas, Sr. and Natividad (Jacquez) Mestas. Mabel was born into a loving Christian family, grew up in church and at an early age she received Jesus as her Savior and Lord. She had a long and fruitful life, surrounded by family and friends who all loved her dearly. In her elderly years she lost most of her sight and hearing, but was always a gracious hostess when anyone came to her home. Even if she felt terrible that day, most people wouldn't know it. She would still sit and visit. She would usually say right away ""are you hungry?"" and would gladly fix you something to eat or drink. Amazing for someone who could barely see! But, that showed Mabel's heart, which was huge and always full of love for her beloved family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh. Mabel had a tender heart and cared so much for everyone, as they did her. Mabel gently drifted off to sleep as she took a nap in her home and awoke in the presence of the Lord in Heaven. We will all miss this sweet and wonderful lady greatly. Until we meet again in Heaven Mabel we love you! Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Juan Francisco Mestas and Natividad Mestas; grandparents, Rafael and Lucia Mestas and Carmen and Aurelia Jacquez; son Daniel Eloy Sanchez in January 1969, daughter Sally L. Rivera on December 25, 2001, sieter-in-law Josie Mestas in May 2012. She leaves behind her son-in-law, Rick Rivera and wife, Kim; granddaughters, DeNelle Fischer, Danielle Rebeles and husband Ted, and Ruby Rivera; brother, Frank Mestas Jr.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and many friends. A funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at World Harvest Center, 1024 N. Butler in Farmington. She will then be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ted Rebeles, Anthony Escojeda, Armando Lara Jr., Monica A. Rivera, Victoria N. Rebeles and Dee Dee Lara. Memorials may be made in Mabel's name to World Harvest Center, 1024 N.
