Mabel Jim Nakai Begay, 96, a dedicated prayer warrior, mother, grandmother and sister entered into her heavenly rest, while surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 8, 2013, in Fruitland. She was born to the late Nakai Jim and Cecelia Peshlakai Nakai, on Aug. 16, 1916, in Red Valley, Ariz.
Mabel attended Shiprock Boarding School, Ft. Wingate and Navajo Methodist Mission School, which is now Navajo Prep.
Mabel was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kee T. Begay, of Red Valley, Ariz,; brothers, Wilson Nakai, of Beclabito and Wallace Nakai, of Shiprock; three grandsons, Melvin R. Ayze, Roger Cohoe Jr. and Johnny Herder Jr.
She will be remembered and missed by her five daughters, Lucy Harden, of Farmington, Betty R, Cohoe, of Mesa, Ariz., Hurley R. (Rev. Roberson) Jackson , of Kirtland, Myra R. Begay, of Fruitland, Amy (Henderson) Jackson, of Fruitland, three sons, Rev Wallace (Bernice) Begay Sr., of Mesa, Ariz., Walter (Kathleen) Begay, of Shiprock and Warren (Suzanne) Begay, of Fruitland; three sisters, Alice Lee, Helen Benally and Lena Benally, all of Red Valley, Ariz.; 39 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Mabel's home-going memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, at her home church, Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Kirtland.
A graveside service will be 9 a.m. on Friday, July 12, in the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery, Road 6575 in Kirtland.
