Lucy Serna Archuleta April 6, 1930 - Jan. 10, 2016
Lucy Serna Archuleta, 85, of Blanco, passed away peacefully surrounded by her familyon Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at San Juan Regional Medical Center. She was born in Durango, Colo., to Donaciano and Pablita Serna.
She began her life in Angustura and it was the best childhood anyone could ask for especially since the Serna family adopted her when she was 21 days old. She walked to school at Rio Vista and attended High School in Aztec. She married Milton Archuleta on Sept. 23, 1945, and they enjoyed 69 years together. Together they raised four sons on their ranch on the San Juan River, and was very involved in their education. Lucy enjoyed her garden, her flowers, and was the best cook around (according to our hired hands). She was very involved her entire life in her church and participating in politics. Her passion for vacuuming and housekeeping was unsurpassed.
Lucy was preceded in death by both her parents, Donaciano and Pablita Serna; her husband, Milton Archuleta; and siblings, Fermin , Able, Fred, Ignacio, Joe and Johnny Serna, Luis, and Lucia Agaron.
She is survived by sons, Dale (Dana); Frank (Lorraine); Don, Nolan (Brenda); and daughter-in-law, Chris Archuleta; grandchildren, Dustin, Derek (Tabitha), Gerald, Frankie, Mike (Amy), Shawn (Skylar); and great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Abel, Kaidence, Kaleb and Laila.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 7378 U.S. Highway 64 in Blanco.
A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father James Walker as celebrant and Deacon Pat Valdez assisting. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington. A reception will follow at St. Mary's parish hall, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield.
Pallbearers are Dustin, Derek, Mike Archuleta, Shawn Archuleta, Geno Serna and Ted Serna.
Honorary pallbearers are Frankie Archuleta, Jeanna Archuleta, Gerald Archuleta, Leo Gutierrez, Jane Gutierrez, Chris Archuleta, Debbie and Daniel Abel, Leonard and Rose Trujillo, Leo Pacheco, Sherry Pacheco, Travis Pacheco, Joe Vigil, Sonny Lujan, Noel Lujan, The Serna Family, and the Archuleta Family.
