Louisa (Oldfield) Eshelman

Louisa Eshelman



Vern was born June 6, 1919, in Brighton, Colo. He died Dec. 4, 2013, in Farmington.
Vern grew up with a sister and brother. Vern joined the U.S. Army in 1940. He was
discharged in 1945, after being awarded a Purple Heart. He returned to Durango. There he met Louisa M. Oldfield Short. They were married May 20,1951, in Durango,
Colo.
Louisa was born Nov. 20,1926, on the family homestead in western La Plata County,
Colo. She died Jan. 30, 2014, in Farmington. She joined three sisters and two brothers. Louisa taught elementary school for 37 years.
Together, Vern and Louisa bought a farm in Mancos, Colo., where they farmed and milked cows. Their sons, Ronald Lee and Terry Dean were born while the family home was in Mancos. The family moved to Arizona and New Mexico where both Louisa and
Vern worked for the BIA. Their love and devotion to one another was an important part of their lives. Their passion for square dancing was well known.
Vern is survived by his brother, Buren (Pete).
Louisa and Vern are survived by Ronald, Karen, Zack, Terry, Renae and Emily
Eshelman. Also, surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Vern and Louisa Eshelman will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug 2, at Bethany Christian Church 711 E 30th St. in Farmington.
