Lorna Beal
Jan. 18, 1909 - May 16, 2015
Lorna Beal was born Jan. 18, 1909, in Delta County, Colo., the only child of Sina and John Allen. The family was one of the pioneers who came from Ohio in a covered wagon and settled on the western slope of Colorado. Lorna lived most of her life in Delta County with many of her relatives raising sheep and farming. Lorna married Merle Beal of Palisade, Colo., in 1927. The young couple helped her parents, John and Sina Allen manage the sheep on land around Hotchkiss Colorado and into the mountains on the summer allotment at Hubbard Creek above Paonia, Colo. Lorna acquired the sheep business in the 1950s. Her longevity may be attributed to the hard work and fresh air of all those years. Lorna enjoyed her long life filled with many miles on horseback tending to the sheep herd, calling quadrilles with her father playing the old time fiddle, dancing and playing in the kitchen band at the parades held in Hotchkiss. She was president of the Embelm Club of the Hotchkiss Ladies Elks. We think of her now meeting and greeting all those who have gone before. In her last weeks here, she talked about many of them that were so much a part of her life during the 1940s and 50s. We will miss her but we know she is in a better place where she will be young forever. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband Merle Beal and grandson Michael Allen Swanemry (1975). She is survived by her only daughter Arloa Pearcy of Aztec; three grandchildren, Vicky (Jeff) Bischof, Shana (Greg) Maslak, Rick (Kim) Swanemyr; and three great-grandchildren, Steven and Sanlyn Maslak and Taylor Swanemyr. A rosary for Lorna will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Aztec, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. with Father Kingsley George- Obilonu as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Religious Education Program of St. Joseph's parish in Aztec. Lorna's care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington St. in Farmington, 505-327-5142. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com http://www.serenityandcompany.com.
