Loraine Beryl (McCarty) Simpson

February 14, 1917 — May 12, 2013

Loraine B. McCarty Simpson, 96, passed from her earthly life on Sunday, May 12, 2013 in Farmington. She was born to William and Nannie Graham McCarty Feb. 14, 1917 in Farmington.
Her early years were spent helping her parents on the farm, riding her big white horse in the hills In the area that is now Farmington Lake and helping care for her little sister, Mary Louise. She was very proud of her sister. She graduated from Farmington High School in 1935, after graduation she continued to help out at home, until 1938 when she started her career with Mountain Bell Telephone Company. She was one of the first operators in Farmington and then transferred to Aztec where the switchboard was located in the living room of her home. She and Walter Witt were married Dec. 8, 1946. After about 1 1/2- years together he died in an automobile accident and Lorraine continued working for the phone company and helping her family. She met Richard Simpson at work when he was transferred in and they were married April 23, 1958. They both continued to work for Mountain Bell until retirement. After retirement she started painting. all of the family have benefited from her beautiful paintings. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Walter Witt and Richard Simpson, her grandparents, Emmett and Ella C. Graham, James E and Nellie McCarty and her niece Karen Brown. She is survived by her sister, Mary Louise Farrell (Mike); nieces, Doreen Bloomfield (Bill), Anita Mulherin (Larry); nephews, Sterling Foutz (Kim), Joe Farrell (Bev), Mike Farrell Jr., Chris Farrell (Cassie) and Pat Farrell (Shannon) and by Karen's children, Nicole Brown, Taylor Brown and Hanna Brown, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Her services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington.Loraine's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
