Heaven gained a new angel when, Lequetta Colleen West, 85, of Kirtland, entered the pearly gates on Tuesday, Apr. 4, 2017 to receive the final star in her crown. She was born Dec. 2, 1931, in Tipton, Okla and passed from her life here on earth in Farmington.
Lequetta was a small-town farm girl with Hollywood beauty and charm who graduated from Tipton High School. She was a Sunday school teacher at Kirtland Baptist Church and volunteered at Plains Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for several years. She helped set up "Helping Hands" store for those less fortunate in Dimmitt, Texas. She also helped to set up the Britts Department Store. She held many positions throughout her life that include; driving the bus for CCSD and a clerk for Jewel Box Pawn Shop. She was a talented seamstress and craft master. All her family and friends were fortunate to have her handmade cross-stitched pictures and afghans.
Lequetta was welcomed with open arms by her parents, John Paul and Juanita Whitehead; sister, Jan Culwell; great-granddaughter; Allison Grace West; as well as a host of family and friends. She is survived by her husband, G.T. West Jr.; sons, John (Darlene) West, Steven West and Michael (Linda) West; daughter, Angela (Paul) Hazzard; sister, Loretta (Carroll) Sullivan; grandchildren, Greg (Robyn) West, John Paul (Jessica) West, Bradley (Emily) West, Delaney and Ross West, Shelby (Tyson) Uselman, Drew Hazzard, Morgan (Drew) VerHaar; and great-grandchildren, Graiden, Landon, Tanner, Brooke, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Ashley and Scout.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 12 at the First Baptist Church of Kirtland, 17 Road 6500 in Kirtland with Brother Brett Puckitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery, 59 Road 6575 in Kirtland.
Pallbearers are Greg West, John Paul West, Bradley West, Shelby Uselman, Drew Hazzard, Morgan VerHaar, Delaney West and Ross West.
