Reina Sussex, 82, a Farmington resident for 60 years passed away on November 18, 2013. Reina was preceded in death by Gene her loving husband of 61 years, her parents, Hector and Leonor de Castro and her brother Hector de Castro. Reina is survived by her brother Fred (Barbara) de Castro, sister Esther Hildebrand and her five children, Annette (Peter) Arndt, Dr. Randy (Rolanda) Sussex, Denise (Dan) Fleming, Marie (Garry) Smothers, and Shelly (Jeff) Ward; 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Reina grew up and attended school in Santa Fe, NM, studied at UNM and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Gene and Reina were married in Santa Fe and moved to Farmington in 1954 where he established his Chiropractic practice and raised their family. Reina had many interests outside her home including working with the Girl Scouts of America, African violet club and the San Juan Country Club Ladies Golf Association. She was also a licensed pilot, and was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master. Reina's God given gift was creating many treasured handmade heirlooms. She enjoyed cooking and was the family's Top Chef. Reina and Gene enjoyed their last 21 years in San Carlos, Mexico where they made many life-long friends. Reina was a devoted wife and mother and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest life fulfillment was raising her five loving children and watching them become loving parents to their children. This continued the Reina and Gene legacy. Cremation will take place and a memorial service for Reina will be held at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington on Saturday, November 23rd at 12:00p.m. A private family burial will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
