Lena Mae John, 78, died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at Northern Navajo Medical Center. She was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Shiprock, to Amy and Charley Joe Sr.
Lena is survived by her children, Stella John, Jeffrey John, Caroline and Todd Thomas, Jefferson John, Carol and Micheal Heredia, Nena Oakes, Ricardo John and Rolando and Collette John. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by four siblings, Charlie Joe Jr., Charley P. Joe, Jonathan Joe and Lula Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard John and two daughters, Sherry John and Sharon Becenti; her parents, Amy and Charley, as well as her stepfather, Tom Jackson; and her brother, Charley John Joe.
Lena was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in April. Although she received chemotherapy, the cancer prevailed and her family was given a few precious months of her loving and cheerful nature.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, U.S. Highway 491 in Shiprock. Burial will follow in the Shiprock Community Cemetery.
