Kenneth LeeRoy Britton born on June 18, 1927 quietly returned to his Heavenly Father and his waiting "little bride" on April 8, 2013.
Ken, as he was known, was born in Big Bow, KS to O.J. Britton. He grew up in Texas and Kansas alongside his four siblings during the Great Depression of the 1930's. Being the eldest, he shouldered the care for those siblings throughout his childhood.
He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and proudly served his country aboard a supply ship in the Pacific. His service continued after the war helping with the reconstruction while in the service as well as helping to rebuild the strength of our nation at home after his service was done.
He met his love and "little bride" Wanda Lee Boyle in Panhandle, Texas in 1948 and began a 62 year marriage loving her completely for his entire lifetime. Together they created a family wherein they were able to share in the joy of witnessing five generations of their family built with strength and grown in love.
Ken is survived by his daughters Diana Shay (Roger), and Jeannie Sandoval (Jose), son Terry as well as one brother, Chet (Laurie) Williams. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kelly Shay (Suzie), Brian Shay (June), Angela Mulheran (Brian), Angela Sandoval (Mike), Levi Shay, Serene Lawrence, Tahna Ortega (Carl) and Kenneth Kyle Sandoval (Kerri). He is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren as well as a special brother-in-law Brad Boyle (Caryl). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanda, parents O.J. and Erva, sister Darlene, brothers David "Sonny" and Derby.
His time on this earth was spent doing all the things he loved best - loving his family, being in oilfield (out in his beloved "patch") building his long-standing business, Big Red Tool, Inc., and "joshin" around with all those he came in contact with. Though his boots are now empty, the family he built will continue walking tall in his long shadow, having learned determination, endurance and laughter from the man with a big o' heart.
A family memorial service will take place on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to: The Four Corners Foundation for A Path Home, P.O. Box 5160, Farmington, NM 87499.
Ken is in the care of Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute Street, Farmington (505) 325-8688
