Kathryn Iris Ewing an acclaimed southwest watercolor artist. Kathy died at home on Thursday, Oct. 8, 20l5. She was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Brownwood, Texas to Vergie (Chandler) and Otto Booher.
Kathy grew up on a farm with four siblings, Clarence (Red), Ike, Pat and Ginger. Her interest in art began in the first grade when her teacher asked her to draw on the chalk board with colored cha1k. She went on to design several high school annuals for Rochelle High School and became a serious art student at the University of Texas. Her art career has landed her commissioned works and teaching jobs at art workshops all over the southwest. She volunteered for various charities such as the Hospital Auxiliary, and was a Founder of the Four Comers Art Association. Kathy's art has won first prize blue ribbons as well as awards in many juried art shows. Last year, her painting, 'A Dance Remembered' toured seven different galleries in New York City as part of NYC's International Women in Arts Festival. The tour culminated in a one woman art show at the Producer's Club on Times Square where her art was projected on a large screen and accompanied by live jazz music. Kathy Ewing's spirit lives on through her vibrant paintings.
She is survived by former husband, Ed Mann and their four daughters, Cathy, Judy, Traci and Becky. Eldest daughter, Cathy Lybrook and family members, Dwight and Peggy Lybrook and their daughter, Lacey; Mitch and Holly Lybrook and children, Caleb, Aubrie, Brynley and Carly; and Kent Lybrook and Denise Ortega. Their second daughter, Judy Mann married to Jeff Boddy, includes family members; Shawna and Glen Riley and children, Ryan and Kyra; Brian Boddy and Rebecca Boddy. Third daughter, Traci Mann and Pat Reilly, and youngest daughter, Becky Mann and children, Austin and Chandler. Other family members include Kathy's sister. Ginger and husband Dan Cotton and children, Mark, Paul and
Andy; Barbara Booher and children, Ted and Steve Booher; Alvin Wayne Booher, Paul Allen Booher, Marylin Mortimer and Joyce Porch; Daria (Booher) and Ross Overson and children, Brandon, Brennon and Brandis. Kathy is survived by long time companion and best friend, Phillip Lloyd.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct.18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1221 E. 20th St. in Farmington with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating.
