Karen Rose Baumgardner, 72, of Aztec, died at 4:20 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. She was born May 12, 1942, in Prescott Ariz., to Leo and Louella O'Connell. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth Baumgardner. Also surviving are her five sons, Keith, Kent, Kevin, Kim and Kelly, their wives and eight grandchildren. She has three sisters, Virginia, Laveta and Cindy, and brother Jack. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Rodney O'Connell. A devoted and much-beloved wife and mother, she loved gardening, painting and quilting, and was a member of the San Juan Quilting Guild and the Aztec Bee.
A remembrance mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 500 N. Mesa Verde Ave. in Aztec, with a gathering in the Parish Fellowship Hall following the Mass to celebrate Karen's life. Memorial contributions may be made to the San Juan Quilters Guild, P.O. Box 5541, Farmington, NM 87499.
