After 102 years of faithful living, Julia "Ora" Brown, is absent from her body and present with her Lord. She passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015. Ora was born on Aug. 3, 1913, at home in the country near Santa Anna, Texas. Her parents were John Walter and Herlie Elizabeth (Montgomery) Tucker. She had one older brother, Eddie and one younger brother, Willie Walter.
As a farm child, Ora helped with the many farm chores. She attended the country elementary school and boarded in town to attend Santa Anna High School, where she was voted the most beautiful girl in school. Graduating in 1930 and without funds to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher, she moved with her family to Tinnie, N.M., where she met Delphos Polk Brown, Ora and Polk were married Oct. 3, 1930, and three children were born to this union, Tommy, Jerry and Susan.
The family lived on ranches around Roswell, until 1953, when they moved north of Durango, Colo., and then to Aztec. Ora taught a ladies Sunday school class for many years at First Baptist Church.
Ora and Polk were married for nearly 64 years when Polk passed away ln 1999. Ora continued to live in Aztec until 2003, when she moved to Farmington to live with her son Tommy and "daughter in love," Gloria. She moved to Namaste House in May of 2010, where she was loved and graciously cared for by Rebecca Morgan and her wonderful staff. She moved to Good Samaritan Society in Aztec in September of 2015, where she resided until her death. The family thanks Dr. Barkman and the Good Samaritan staff for their compassionate care.
Ora was preceded ln death by her parents, her two brothers, her husband and a daughter. She is survived by her sons, Tommy (Gloria), Jerry (Peggy); her grandchildren, Jana (Mark) VanderHoven, Greg (Jill) Brown, Brady Brown Andrew (Annette) Previti Brown; her great-grandchildren, Levi and Luke Brown, Elspeth and Clara VanderHoven, Eli and Wyatt Brown, Shiloh Previti Brown; two special nieces, Loyce (Bill) Stock, Betty Brown Johnson and a special ex-daughter-in-law, Jeanie (Bob) Brown.
A celebration of Ora's Godly life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23 at the First Baptist Church of Aztec, 700 Navajo Ave.
