Flora Vista
Joy Fay (Carter) Murphy
Aug. 29, 1943 - July 17, 2014
Joy Fay (Carter) Murphy, 70, who was born Aug. 29, 1943, to Donas and Sara Carter, in Tucumcari. She passed peacefully, Friday, July 11, 2014, at her Flora Vista home. On this day the world lost a very special lady. Joy was a perfect name; she had a way of making everyone's life better through a special kindness that was all her own. That was the only thing that was all her own as it always made her happier to do things for those in her life than to do something for herself. Furthermore, when Joy did something for someone she never expected anything in return. Joy was a very appreciative and modest woman. She never hesitated to tell you how much it meant to her for you to do the smallest of things, and never wanted to be a bother so she often made do with what she had. Early in life the family moved back to Farmington (1944) and this is where Joy grew up and with astonishing beauty, graduated from Farmington High School in 1961. Shortly after graduating she found herself in California where she married, had her son, and lived a life of grand experience. The west coast appeal wore off and she returned to Flora Vista in 1995 where she happily remained. Joy loved many things in life, certainly her family. Though Joy lived much of her life surrounded by affluence she often said that she
was so lucky to be right here at home with family close by, particularly her "best friend" and sister Dona and her brother-in-law Marshall who she greatly appreciated. Joy had several pets throughout life that she adored, but these were not the only animals she connected with. She loved wildlife and had dreams of having a wildlife refuge. Joy loved beautiful scenery and would often take pictures of flowers and animals. She even honed her skills as a painter for some time. She enjoyed decorating her beautiful and immaculate home. Joy loved horses and tennis and would rarely miss the next big match even if it meant getting up at four in the morning.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents Donas and Sara Carter, and is survived by her son, James Kimbell; sisters, Dona (Marshall) Mead and Judy (Denny) Reeves; nephews, Franklin Thomas, Daniel (Karen Hall) Thomas, Rick Eaton and Jerry Stalcup; niece, Cindy Bodnar; grandnephew whom she considered a grandson, Franklin Jason (Kristy Howard) Thomas; grandniece, Brandi (Ray) Harrington and their sons Leo and Cory; numerous friends including, Sylvia and Marvin Strange, John Schwartz and Lane Peterson.
Joy is dearly loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
A small private memorial will be on Sunday, July 20, in Flora Vista.
Joy's care is entrusted to Alternative Choice, 804 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington, 505-325-9611. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com http://www.serenityandcompany.com.
