MSgt. Jose "Joe" Daniel Soto, 56, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, in Durango, Colo.. He was born on March 10, 1959, in La Libertad, Ecuador, to Jose A. Soto and Carmen Mera.
He graduated from Brentwood High School in 1976 and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He married Angela, in 1982. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years. His children will remember him as a driven, giving, loving, dedicated father who always encouraged them to pursue their goals with determination.
Jose enjoyed fitness and athletics and often participated in various outdoor and sports activities. He was a generous and dedicated individual who loved his family and was passionate about volunteering, mentoring and helping people in any way possible.
Jose is survived by his mom Carmen Mera of Orlando, Fla. (Ecuador); wife Angela Soto; children, Jeremy and Maria; siblings, Lupe Soto-Prieto of Dubai, Sofia Soto-Castellanos of Orlando, Fla., Lucy Soto-Clowney of Oviedo, Fla., Juan Soto of Virginia Beach, Va., Robert Soto of Queens, N.Y. and Ruben Soto of Queens; and 14 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Jose A. Soto of Palm Bay Fla.
A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St. in Farmington, with Father Frank Chacon as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to San Juan College Foundation in memory of Jose D. Soto. The family would like to thank the EMTS and medical staff at Mercy Regional Medical Center for their efforts.
