John Dale Roe, Sr.
October 29, 1922 - December 21, 2013
John Dale Roe Sr. (91) of Farmington passed away December 21, 2013. He was born to John Martindale Roe and Helen Elizabeth (King) roe on October 29, 1922 in Casper, Wyoming.
He graduated from high school in Craig, Colorado and was attending Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado when WWII began, at which time he joined the US Navy. He became an Electrician's Mate 3C. He also operated an LCT-930 landing craft during beach clearing operations and manned a 12mm gun during air attacks. His fleet operated in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans as supply ships. John was extremely proud to have served his country. After the war ended he met and married Clara Rowena (Ronnie) Reding on February2, 1947 in Riverton, Wyoming.
John worked for Brinkerhoff Drilling Co. and moved with the Company to Farmington in 1959. John and Ronnie liked Farmington and decided to settle down and raise their three boys. John also worked for Loffland Brothers, Arapahoe and LLL Drilling Companies. He worked as a driller most of his career and he retired in 1985.
He and Ronnie were avid rock hunters and members of the Four Corners Gem and Mineral Society. John loved to hunt and fish and in his later years loved to feed and watch birds and fly his American Flag. He was esoecially proud of his American flag that was flown in his honor over Camp Stone in Herat, Afghanistan while his Grand-son-in-lawSteve Deeb was stationed there during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was a hard worker , a great sory teller and always provided for his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his sister Helen Bond of Worland,WY, sons John Roe Jr. (Debbie), AllenRoe (Nancy), and Tom Roe (Glenda) all of Farmington;grandchildren; Shelle Deeb (Steve), Matthew Roe, Mechel Watts (Aaron), Brian Roe (Kathleen), and Shannon Harrell (Will), Melissa Pavey(Michael) and Nathan Evans (Laura). Great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Deeb, Nathan and Bradley Roe, Austin and Quihna Otero and Dravenand Eli Watts, Lillianna Roe, Maddisson and Brian Pavey, and JT, Ethanand Lani Evans as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ronnie, sister and brother-in-law Harriet and Gene Cooper, brothers Robert Roe and Herbert Roe and sister-in-law Bea Roe.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 4600 College Blvd. in Farmington, with Rev, Joe Morris officiating. Internment will take place on Monday, December 30th at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1606 N. Dustin in Farmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's memory to the Sharing and Caring Fund at the New Covenant United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
