John N. Hood

John Nichol Hood, 91, of Farmington, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, in Farmington. He was born May 6, 1925, in Richfield, Utah, to Francis Nicol Hood and Luella Nisha Blomquist.
He married Joyce Anderson on Aug. 26, 1948. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple Aug. 24, 1954.
John served in the Utah National Guard for 20 years. He served in the Korean War in 1950-51.
In 1967 he moved to Farmington where he was employed by Utah International, later BHP, and worked as mine supervisor at Navajo and San Juan Mines.
John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a bishop and other leadership positions. Later in life he served at the bishop's storehouse and made deliveries weekly to many parts of the area.
John was a man of many interests and talents. He was a good mechanic, electrician, and photographer. He enjoyed golf, which he played well into his '80s. He loved to cook, and garden. He loved to work with wood. The family have all enjoyed the fruits of his wood working as recipients of furniture. He was a skilled gunsmith who could fully restore and rebuild rifles.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Anderson; daughter, Jeanette; parents, Luella Blomquist and Francis Hood; and stepfather, LeRoy Fournier. He is survived by his children, Susan (Lane) Allen of Farmington, Kim (Baynard) Duke of Farmington, Steve (Mary) Hood of Ephraim, Utah, Richard Hood of La Plata, and Michael (Cassie) Hood of La Plata; brother, Robin Hood of Bountiful, Utah; and sister, Margaret Timony of Salt Lake City. He has 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3 at the Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home Chapel, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Knudsen chapel), 1310 E. 25th St. in Farmington with Bishop Michael Kelley officiating. Interment will be in Richfield, Utah.
