JULY 2, 1924 - FEBRUARY 20, 2014
JOHN PHILLIP HINDBAUGH, 89, a resident of Farmington passed away peacefully Thursday, February 20, 2014 at his home. John was born July 2, 1924 in L'Anse, Michigan the son of Clarence Mahlon Hindbaugh and Alta Mae Magee Hindbaugh. John joined the military in Lansing, Michigan in 1942 and made the military his career. He served in WWII, the Korean War and in Vietnam and reenlisted three times. He received many commendations and citations during his service. John was a lifetime member of VFW Post #2182 of Farmington. During his retirement John enjoyed helping with many activities with the VFW and was a proud member of the honor guard team. He enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful garden, his specialty was tomatoes and grew some of the best. John also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all his family, colleagues and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bobbie J. Hindbaugh, his brothers Floyd and Fay Hindbaugh. John leaves behind his companion and caregiver Claudia Elliott of Farmington; nephew Stephen Hindbaugh and sister-in-law Phyllis Hindbaugh both Palmdale, CA, many dear friends and VFW members. Cremation has taken place and memorial services are Friday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the VFW Hall Post #2182, 5513 Highway 64, on the Bloomfield Highway with his friend Lee Wooderson officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery John's wishes.In lieu of flowers contributions may made in John's name to the VFW Post #2182, 5513 Highway 64, Farmington, NM 87401. John's care in entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, (505) 325-8688.
