John Gilbert Hagen

June 8, 1933 — December 29, 2015

John "Festus" Hagen, age 82, of Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015. He was born on June 8, 1933, in Valley Falls, Kan. He spent most of his childhood in Topeka, Kansas. John joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953, during the Korean War. He served as Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1962.
John married the love of his life, Sherron, on Jan. 1, 1966. Shortly thereafter they moved to Farmington, where they raised their family. "Festus" as he was called worked for Halliburton Services for over 20 years, then after 'retiring' he worked for Farmington Municipal Schools for 12 years until his vision finally failed him. Although John was blind and nearly deaf he continued to love life with a joyful attitude. NEVER has there been a more dedicated Kansas City Chiefs football fan! He nurtured his tomatoes to great size and was proud to share them with everyone. He loved studying history and was quite the storyteller. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
John is survived by his wife, Sherron, and their four children Gerald and (Michelle) Hagen; Gina and (Jim) Quesenbury; Tony and (Launa) Hagen; and Ginger Hagen and (Jason) Englehart. He has 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He also has three children, John, Blanche, and Susan from his first marriage. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Blanche Hagen; three brothers, Donald, Tony and Bud Hagen; and two grandchildren, Nathan Hagen and Rebecca Hagen. The family would like to thank the physicians, ICU nurses, and staff at SJRMC for giving such loving care to John.
Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 31, at Brewer, Lee, and Larkin Funeral Home.
John's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
