Reverend Joan V. Roberts, 77, of Farmington passed from this life into the arms of her loving Father in Heaven, one that she served for many years. Joan was born July 24, 1935 in Rio Grande City, Texas the daughter of Dalton Allen Van Dresar and Ruth Elizabeth Vernon Dresar.
Rev. Roberts taught English for many years before beginning a second career as a United Methodist minister. She served churches throughout New Mexico before finally coming to Farmington. Throughout Joan's life, she maintained a sense of wonder, delight and fulfillment in discoveries made and challenges met. Continually growing and learning. Joan was a gifted teacher and pastor, a devoted friend, an equal partner in a long and happy marriage, and a mother who gave her children wings and encouraged them to fly. Her laughter and her wisdom will be greatly missed.
Joan leaves behind her sons Eric Roberts and Kirk Roberts; daughter Cheryl Alison; brothers Jack VanDresar and Jim VanDresar, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren as well as many church family, colleagues, and friends who loved her and adored her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Rodney E. Roberts.
Cremation will take place and a celebration of Joan's life will be Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 807 N. Monterey in Farmington.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to First United Methodist Church, 807 N. Monterey, Farmington, NM 87401.
