Jo Ann Fisk

January 29, 1949 — November 18, 2012

Jo Ann Fisk, 63, peacefully passed away on Sunday November 18th at San Juan Regional Medical Center from her long hard fought battles with cancer. Her optimistic, strong will to live carried her through many months of chemotherapy, radiation, and physical therapy. As the poster child for determination, she found her strength and endurance by seeing the positive side of things. Known for her signature laugh, she touched and blessed many people's lives.
Jo Ann was born on an Air Force Base in Bermuda. Her family then moved to Gillette, Wyoming. Twenty-five years later she found herself in Farmington, NM where she met George, the love of her life. They were married in Las Vegas, NV on April 1, 1978. Through nearly thirty-five years together he willing gave her everything her heart desired and more. There are not words to express his deep, loving, undying devotion to her as a husband of unshakeable conviction who courageously took care of her until her last breath.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Jonathan Gillette. She is survived by her loving husband George Fisk and her daughter Michelle (Robert) Lewis of Bloomfield, NM. She has six grandchildren, Sierra (Jeff) Bolgrean, Derrick and JP Crane, Sarrah and Brittany Lewis, Stephanie (Jesus) Munoz and eight great-grandchildren.
Jo Ann's hobbies were canning, flower gardening, and baking Christmas candies and fudge. She always gave her heart and soul to everything that she did; she touched people's lives and was very dedicated to her job. For thirty-five years she worked in the steel and fabrication industry. On the weekends she would often spend time with her friends and family at "Jo Ann's Cabin" sitting on the front porch enjoying the mountain views and watching hummingbirds, coyotes, deer and elk.
Her love of diamonds and sapphires often mimicked her bright and shiny personality along her love of gambling. She could never pass a penny slot machine as all the bells and the whistles always drew her in. Often she kept her good luck frog hidden in the back of her wheel chair which would guide her the right way to making the "machines sing".
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday November 24, 2012 at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, NM. Pallbearers will be Dennis Fisk, Guy Hernandez, Justin Johnson, Robert Lewis, Jason McMillan, and Todd Tucker. Honorary Pallbearer is John Brizendine. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens.
Jo Ann will be remembered and dearly missed. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support in many heart-felt forms from people too great in number to name individually. Special appreciation goes to Dr. Castrellon, and the physical therapists at San Juan Regional Rehabilitation Outpatient Center. Tender thanks are conveyed to the nurses and staff at the San Juan Oncology Associates, the entire staff at San Juan Regional Medical Center, and her second family at Timberline (O'Neal) Steel.
