Jessie E. Taylor, better known as "Gene" went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on December 8, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife Geneva, his parents Virgil ,and Blanche Taylor, 3 brothers(James), Edgar, and Don Taylor and one sister Edith Taylor. He is survived by one brother (Alvie) and 3 sisters; Francis Henson( Doyle) Wilma Taylor and Winnie Miears; and by his four children: Winnell Tomlinson, Lenord Taylor(Carolyn)Candy Smith(Bill) and Jay Taylor, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. As a young man, Gene spent time in various professions, ranging from riding race horses in Texas to building power lines in Washington and even working in a mental asylum at one point.Gene was a five year veteran of the US Army, proudly serving during
and after the Korean War. Again he had varying job descriptions; from .50 caliber machine gun commander to military police to drill sergeant. More recently he worked for (and retired from) the Gas Company of New Mexico, working as a field technician first, and then as a heavy equiptment operator. Gene loved to hunt, camp out, read his bible, and do almost anything with his children and grandchildren, most especially loving to travel. He wrote cowboy
poetry, and enjoyed sharing it with anyone interested in listening. He had many friends, and was always willing to help a stranger. To him they weren't really strangers; just friends he hadn't met yet! He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Memorial services will include cremation, then interment at a later date on his property just south of Durango,Colorado as he expressly wished. The family wishes to thank any and all who helped him through his difficult time after the stroke which disabled him.
