Funeral Services for Jean Shorty, 61, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Free Trinity Navajo Mission. The Reverend Dennis Gardner will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Shorty died April 29, 2017, in Gilbert, Arizona. She was born February 7, 1956, in Gallup, NM, into the Red Running into the Water People Clan born for the Meadow People Clan.

Shorty received an associate degree in general studies from Bacone College and worked for the Gallup Port of Entry for 24 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and having breakfast dates with her family members.

Survivors include her sons Everett Guerito, of Fort Riley, Kansas, Raymond Shorty Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Loren Shorty, of Phoenix, Arizona.; daughter Racine Romero, of Chandler, Arizona, and Carmelita Shorty, of Farmington, New Mexico; brothers Ernest Hale, of Gallup, Benny Hale, of Sundance, James Hale, of Oklahoma, and Frank Hale, of Sundance; sisters Gladys Hale, Lenora Zimmerman, Gloria Hale and Freda Brown, all of Gallup; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Shorty Sr., father Anderson Hale, mother Alice Hale, brother Wilbur Hale and step-daughter Patricia Shorty.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Shorty Jr., Loren Shorty, Aaron Tsosie, Ryan Begay, Karsten Shorty and Marcos Romero.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Navajo Baptist Church.

Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup, New Mexico is entrusted with arrangements.
