Farmington
Jacqueline V. Hemingway
May 17, 1954 - July 7, 2015
Jacqueline "Jackie" Valerie Hemingway, 61, of Farmington, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, in Farmington. She was born May 17, 1954, in Lake City, S.C., to Joseph Sr. and Evelyn Vereen-Hemingway.
Jackie graduated from Lake City High School in Lake City. After high school she attended and graduated from Claflin College in Orangeburg, S.C. When Jackie's college days concluded she returned to Lake City and spent a combined 30 years working as a social worker at Pee Dee Center in Florence, S.C.; and as a social studies teacher at Lake City Elementary School. In 2009, she came to Farmington because she didn't want to live two time zones away from her grandchildren.
Jackie worked at Northwest New Mexico Seniors in Farmington as a senior companion. She loved working there because she felt that she made a difference in the lives of her clients and their families.
Jackie was a "great" grandmother, who thanked God everyday for being a grandmother. She was a fan of the New York Giants and any team that beat the Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed reading, writing, playing spades, garage sales and daily challenges. She made people's lives better than it was before they met her. Jackie was a special soul and she will definitely be missed.
Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; brother Joseph Hemingway Jr.; sister Pauline Hemingway-Grice; and her grandparents, Samuel and Susanna Grant-Hemingway and Jesse and Lucille Gibbs-Vereen. She is survived by her son Travis D. Hemingway; brother Charles Vereen; best friends, Delores "Dooda" Gamble and Florence "Happy" Scott; nieces, Mamie Hemingway-Eaddy, Jessie Mae Hemingway-McClam, Rose Hemingway and Lisa Hemingway; and her grandchildren, Joselyn, Hailey, Mackenzie, Makayla and Gabriel.
Jackie's care is entrusted to Alternative Choice Burial and Cremation, 804 N. Dustin Ave. in Farmington, 505-325-9611. Those who wish to express their condolences may do so at www.serenityandcompany.com http://www.serenityandcompany.com.
