James L. Waggoner, age 90, passed away in Farmington, NM on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. James was born to James D. and Opal Vineyard Waggoner on December 30, 1925 in Roswell, NM.
James was a graduate of Roswell High School and attended Purdue University. He worked for many years in the Oil Industry as a Geologist and Geophysicist. He owed a ski lodge in Ruidoso, NM in the late 1970's. After retirement, he worked as a greeter at the Wal-Mart in Farmington, NM. Just after statehood in 1960 he moved to Alaska where he raised his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting everyone he encountered. He was frequently mistaken as Santa Claus by the local children due to his plaid shirts, suspenders and white beard.
James was preceded in death by his parents; James D. and Opal Vineyard Waggoner; Brother; Eugene Waggoner, Sister; Margaret Louise Holland.
James is survived by his wife; Doris R. Waggoner, son; Martin E. Waggoner (Shari); daughters; Cherrelyn Kramer (Chris), Stephanie W. Harper (Clarence), Sarah C. Jordan (Matthew), grandchildren; Katherine, Christian, Brendan and Ian Jordan Zachary and Chelsey Waggoner.
Per James' request, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers may be made to La Plata County Humane Society.
James' care is entrusted to Alternative Choice Funeral and Cremation, 804 N. Dustin Ave, in Farmington, 505-325-9611.
