James Tracy Postak died in the arms of his son, Jonathan, Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at the age of 64, in Cuba. He had been having a number of heart health problems for quite some time and as a resident of Farmington, was in route to the VA hospital in Albuquerque for appointments. He died of congestive heart failure. He was born Nov. 6, 1950, in San Diego, Calif., to the late John and Katheryn Postak, and spent his childhood growing up in Foley, Ala. James is survived by his wife of 43 years Phillis Ann Hood Postak, and six of his seven children, Jennifer Wilson of Coweta, Okla., Aaron of Eagle Mountain, Utah, Daniel of Lincoln, Calif., Jonathan of Farmington, Jordan of Weber State Univ. in Ogden, Utah, and Jesse of Clearfield, Utah, his sister Patti Thompson of Ogden. He also has 17 living grandchildren. Before graduating in 1969, from Highlands High School in California, he was voted Senior Personality and Student Body Treasurer. He played football and participated in band and drama. Earning a music scholarship, he attended California State University, Sacramento, Calif. and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts music degree. He enjoyed being in several bands and singing groups throughout the years. He also spent a great deal of time coaching football, baseball and basketball teams for his sons. His musical talents led him to serve in several local "Fiddler on the Roof" productions playing the complicating role of Tevye. He also conducted a large community inter-faith production of The Messiah in Sandpoint, Idaho. James was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Carpenter and the USS Brinkley Bass as a radioman. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1310 E 25th St. in Farmington, with Bishop Michael Kelley conducting. James' care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
