Funeral services for James Mason, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at St. Michael Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick Shafer, OFM, will officiate. Burial will be in Kinlechee Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9-9:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at St. Michael Catholic Church.
Mason died Oct. 31, 2013, in Albuquerque. He was born July 31, 1931, in Crownpoint, into the Tangle People Clan born for The Water Flows Together People Clan.
Mason attended Fort Wingate High School and was in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Navajo Nation Police officer and did facility management for a warehouse in Crownpoint.
Survivors include his sons Anthony Mason, of Albuquerque, and Larry Curley, of To'hajiilee; daughters Phyllis Mason-Baca, of Albuquerque; Geraldine Hatathli, of Shiprock; Mary Rose Mason, of Gallup, Genevieve Carli of Montrose, Colo., Myrtle Mason,, of Gallup, and Charlotte Lee, of San Diego; brothers Reuben Mason, of Thoreau, Eddie Mason Jr., of Lukachukai, Ariz., and Richard Mason, of Albuquerque; 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Mason; sons Jimmie Mason Jr., Murray Mason and Murment Mason; parents Edgar Mason Sr. and Celia Tom-Mason; brothers Danny Mason and Irwin Mason; and sister Lorraine James.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Baca, Anthony Lope, Milton Bluehouse Jr., Brian Curley, Kelly Mason and Benson Platero.
The Family will meet at Kinlichee Chapter House.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is entrusted with arrangements.
