James "Maurice" Johnson, 85, of Farmington, went to His Heavenly Home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, December 1, 2017. Maurice was born in Wellington,Texas, where he lived with relatives during much of his early childhood, because his father worked pipeline construction. His first job, at age 12, was driving a team of mules for a pipeline construction job his father was working on during the war years. He graduated from Ysleta High School in El Paso, Texas; he then attended Texas Western in El Paso, Texas, for 2 years, studying engineering. He was drafted by the Army in 1952, and spent 2 years in Germany. He was discharged with the rank of Corporal in 1954. After being discharged from the service, he worked for several oil and gas companies during his career.

He met his wife-to-be, Patty Brothers, when his family moved to Farmington during the Oil and Gas boom in the early 1950's. They married in 1956, and celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. They were blessed with 2 children, Jana and Justin, who are fourth generation graduates of Farmington High School on the Brothers' family side.

During his job with El Paso Products, he was transferred to Rock Springs, Wyoming, then back to Farmington, after 4 years. He was the office manager for Bob Bayless Drilling. He ended his working career with BLM. He helped coach baseball in the area for several years, served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Farmington, for 37 years, as well as teaching third grade Sunday School.

Maurice was a "Forever Dallas Cowboys" fan. "Mo", as he was fondly called, was a "Super" husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be Greatly Missed!

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; Marshall Johnson and Dorothy Goodson.

He is survived by his wife Patty Brothers Johnson; his son, Justin Johnson, and his daughter, Jana Hitchings; brothers, Neal Johnson and Reggie Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Dwane and Beverly Robinson and family. Also grandchildren; Elyse (Ryan) Means, Reese Hitchings, Alyssa Johnson (Noah) Robinson, Jeremy (Kelsey) Johnson; and great grandchildren; Lucas Arrellin, Ian Johnson, Elijah Johnson and many dear friends.

Services for Maurice will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, at the First Baptist Church of Farmington, 511 West Arrington, with Pastor John Preston officiating. Maurice will be cremated and will be placed at Greenlawn Cemetery during a private ceremony. Honorary pallbearers are; Deacons of the First Baptist Church, Jeremiah Men's Class, Wilson Hitchings, Ryan Means, Noah Robinson, Jeremy Johnson, Reese Hitchings, Neal Johnson, and Reggie Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Youth Department of First Baptist Church, 511 West Arrington, Farmington, NM 87401.
