James Jim, 63, of Shiprock passed away Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington. He was born Aug. 21, 1952, in Shiprock the son of John and Olive Jim. He was born to the Red House clan and born for the Red Goat clan.
James enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was honorably discharged after two years of service. He was employed with at Neilson's Construction for the six months as a tamper operator. James was later hired with the Bureau of Reclamation for 18 years then transferred to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 21 years. He retired from working with the government after 42 years. Throughout his life his hobbies included: dance lessons, traveling, hunting, mechanical work (vehicles) and tinkering with anything he could get his hands on but mostly spending time with his kids every chance he had. He will be greatly missed.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Olive Jim, brothers Henry and William Jim; sisters, Mary Begay and Anna Smith. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Laverne (Pierce) Jim; sons, Travis and Terrance (Heidi) Jim; daughters, Victoria (David Cassidy), Donna (James Blackowl), Divida (Roger Ayze), DeVonne, and Dorvina; brother, Raymond (Marie Jim); grandchildren, Michael Cassidy, Dylan Cassidy, Jonathan Ayze, and Nicolle (Jake) Garbush; and many dear friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington.
Funeral services for James will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, U.S. Highway 491 in Shiprock. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington with full military honors being provided by VFW Post #2182 of Farmington.
Pallbearers are Donovan Shushlachee, Dino Jim, Jonathan Ayze, Gauge Jim, Roger Ayze, Dakota Shushlachee, Dawah Shushlachee and Dylan Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Jim, Leon Cambridge, Lindy Pierce, Corey Jim, Colin Nez, Nicolle Garlash, Michael Cassidy, Dylan Cassidy, Easton Wyatt, Jeremy Wyatt, and Dominick Rico.
James' care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington , 505-325-8688.
