James Bateman Burton, 89, of Flora Vista, passed away on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, in Durango, Colo. He was born on Oct. 29, 1925, in Harrison, Ark., to Joseph and Bertha Burton.
Jim was born in a time when not everyone was fortunate enough to graduate from high school. He worked with is father then served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although he lacked a high school diploma, he went on to open and run a very successful tile business in the Farmington area for many years. He was a hardworking man of integrity and high values. He will be greatly missed.
James was preceded in death by his first wife Virginia Burton; son Dale (Pete) Amyx; parents, Joseph and Bertha Burton; and sister Laura Mae Burton. He is survived by his wife Norma Nadine Amyx; sons, James Burton (wife Rita), Dennis Burton (wife Jan), Roger Amyx (wife Terry); daughters, Kathy Davis (husband David), Debra Jacquez; and sister Ruby Earhart. James is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of James' life and a graveside memorial service will be held at a later date. James' care is entrusted to Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W.
