Hugh Leonard Easterday, 69, of Farmington passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012. He was born on January 3, 1943 in Denver, Colorado to Harold and Vesta Easterday. Hugh earned a degree in History and Education from Fort Lewis College and a Masters in School Administration from Western New Mexico University, in Silver City, NM. Hugh married Sue Griswold Easterday of Cortez, Colorado in June of 1964. Hugh worked as an elementary teacher in Kaibeto, Arizona before moving to Farmington, NM where he spent his career as a teacher, coach and administrator at Tibbetts Junior High School, Heights Junior High, Ladera Elementary, Farmington Administration Office, Northeast Elementary, and Mesa View Junior High. After retiring from Farmington Municipal Schools, Hugh also worked at Nenahnezad Elementary in Fruitland, NM.
Hugh was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Hugh is survived by his wife, Sue Easterday, his son, Kevin Easterday of San Antonio, Texas, and his daughters, Dee Dee Easterday of Farmington, NM and Tricia Schultz and son-in-law Jason Schultz of Goodyear, Ariz. He is also survived by his grandchildren Justin Fleming, Brandon Fleming, Duncan Schultz, Jocelyn Schultz, Christopher Easterday and Michael Easterday. His is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Lewis Easterday of Denver, Deanna (Dennis) Butts of Orlando, Florida, Lorna (Arne) Johnson of Honeypath, NC and Dwight (Janet) Easterday of San Jose, California and his uncle and aunt Howard and Dolores Yates of Greeley, Co. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Vesta Easterday and his sister Roberta Brock.
The family would like to thank his doctors Dr. Matthew Dekay, Lloyd Percell, Dr. Lihn Nguyen and Brittany, Fran and Nancy and the staff at the San Juan Cancer Center , Dr. Jeff Neidhart, and Dr. James Neidhart and the staff at San Juan Oncology especially his nurses Shawna, Erin, Lauren, Pat and Louise.
A funeral service for Hugh will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at First United Methodist Church 808 N. Monterey with the Rev. Dr. Guy Mackey of St. John's Episcopal Church officiating.
