Howard was born on April 20th, 1928 in Palmdale, CA to Ruby (Lamb) and Robert Stinson. He passed peacefully at his home on May 7th, 2016. Howard was 13 when he moved to Aztec, NM.
Howard enlisted in the Navy in 1946 and was discharged in 1952. He took 3 years off and re-enlisted in the Army from 1955-1958.
While stationed in Japan, he met and married the love of his life Joan (Sachiko) Shiotsuka on Feb. 15, 1951 in Yokohama, Japan.
After his military service, Howard went to work for Southern Union from 1953-1955 and again in 1958-1986. He also worked part-time at Utton's Dairy after he came back from the Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Alden, Thomas, and Loren Stinson.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan (Sachiko) Stinson, his sister Viola Utton and brothers Ray Stinson and Norman Stinson. He also leaves behind his children Herb (Terry) Stinson, daughter Jennifer (Chauncey) Lutrell, son Johnny (Machelle) Stinson, grandchildren Tonya, Jeremy, Travis, Brian, Amy, Chauncey and Sebastian, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering will be held at Cope Memorial in Aztec, NM from 7 - 8pm on Tuesday, May 10th. The funeral will be held at 10 am Wednesday, May 11th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on N. Oliver Dr. in Aztec, NM. A graveside burial will follow immediately at the Aztec Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made toward the Aztec Wrestling Building Committee Fund. Inquire at Citizens Bank in Aztec.
