Hermina "Jimmie" Mary Valdez, 89, of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, in Farmington. She was born Feb. 6, 1925, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Tomasa Gomez-Valdivia and Felix Gomez.
Jimmie marries Epifanio "Chris" Valdez in 1943, in Sioux City. Then they moved in 1956, to Lumberton. She served on the Dulce school board from 1959 to 1965. The Valdez's moved to Farmington and she taught head start from 1961 to 1991, and then retired. With so much time on her hands she volunteered at the senior center where they put her to work, from 1998 to 2007. Mom's generosity, passion for helping others, love for music, family and church will live on in the lives she affected. Jimmie was preceded in death by her husband Epifanio "Chris" Valdez; brothers, Trino Gomez and Nicanor "Nick" Gomez; and sister Annie Valdez. She is survived by her sons, Chris (Denise) Valdez, James Valdez and Leonard (Jessica) Tarango; daughters, Rosemary (Ernie) Tafoya, Christine Paschke and Carmen Martinez; brother Carmen Gomez; sister Mary (James) Anderson; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2100 E. 20th St. in Farmington.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 19 at also at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington.
A reception will follow the interment at St. Mary's parish hall.
Pallbearers are Alex Valdez, Ernie Tafoya, Michael Aragon, Christopher Valdez, Daniel Martinez and James Valdez Jr.
