Helen B. Woody, 92, of Hogback, who was our mother, grandmother and matriarch, passed away from this life at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016, in Farmington. She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Hogback to David and Frances Brewster. Helen was a homemaker, farmer, rancher and sheepherder. She loved planting, working the farm, and sharing her harvest with family and friends. She was an expert at making traditional Navajo meals. Our mother was not formally educated but was knowledgeable in life skills and values to prosper and survive off the land. She was a Baptist member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We will miss you dearly, but we know that you are in God's kind and loving care. Special thanks to the staff of the San Juan Center for their care. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Woody; parents, David and Frances Brewster; brother, Robert F. Brewster; and sister, Hazel Lope. She is survived by her daughter, Mary E. Benally (Ervin Jim); brother, Andrew Brewster (Nelda); sisters, Margaret Harrison and Florence King; her grandchildren, David Jim, Darin Jim, Diane Smith (Matthew Smith, Sr.), Jeremiah Johnson, Matthew C. Smith, Jr., William J. Smith, and nieces and nephews. A visitation will be today at 9:15 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Cope Memorial Chapel, 404 W. Arrington St. in Farmington. A funeral service will be today at 10 a.m. also, at Cope Memorial Chapel with Loren Johnson officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Memory Gardens in Farmington. Reception will follow after burial at Operations Engineer Union Hall in Kirtland. Pallbearers are David Jim, Darin Jim, Jeremiah Johnson, David King, Anthony Brewster, Joey Jim and Matthew Smith, Sr.
