Helen T (Tafoya) Salazar

August 11, 1930 — April 23, 2014

Helen T. Salazar of Grants, passed away on April 23, 2014 in Albuquerque, New Mexico surrounded by her loving family, she was 83. Ms. Salazar was born on August 11, 1930 in Alameda, New Mexico to Severo Tafoya and Petra Jaramillo Tafoya. She was a dedicated wife to Epifanio Salazar, whom she married on November 27, 1947 in Gallup, New Mexico at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Ms. Salazar was devoted to raising her family, and to her faith, she was an active member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, where she participated in the prayer and Ultreya groups. She was active with the Grants Senior Citizens. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies include going to the casino, ceramics, and crocheting.
She is survived by her children; Yvonne S. Gomez of Albuquerque, Harriet Trujillo of Grants, Romana "Tinker" Salazar of Albuquerque, Frank M. Salazar of Grants, Mark Andrew Salazar of Albuquerque, and Sally Salazar and her mate Shawn Dickson. Ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sisters; Sophie Owens, Esther Osollo, Lucille Taylor, and Pauline Dimas, along with numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Epifanio Salazar on April 11, 1997. Her parents; Severo and Petra Tafoya. One daughter; Donna Nieto. One grandson; Dominic Salazar. Her son-in-law; David Trujillo. Along with six siblings.
Funeral services will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church on Monday April 28, 2014, a visitation will begin at 11:00 am-12:30 pm. A Rosary will then be recited at 12:30 pm. Father Alberto Avella will celebrate the Mass at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Grants Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
Pallbearers include; Daniel Gomez, Larry Trujillo, Jacob Trujillo, Victor Nieto, Lawrence Salazar, and Shawn Dickson.
Honorary Pallbearers include; Donovan Williams, John Marquez, Shaquille Marshall, Anthony Lugones, All of her Great-Grandchildren, her Prayer Group Ladies, and her three Senior Companions.
Cope Memorial Chapel of Gallup is entrusted with arrangements.
