Helen Marie Johnston Hutchison, 96, of Farmington, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at the Namaste House in Farmington. She was born Nov. 10, 1918, in Cashion, Okla., to Thomas and Maude Johnston.
As a small child, she moved to a farm near Roy, where she was raised as one of eight children; brothers, Warren and Wayne and sisters, Juanita, Thelma, Wilma and Laura have preceded her in death. She is survived by one brother, Robert, of Fallon, Nev.
She married Floran Hutchison in 1938. The celebrated 68 years of marriage before his death in 2007. After marriage, she became Hutch's assistant coach, laundered and patched team uniforms for years and assisted in transportation during his years as a coach in Solano, Maxwell and Farmington.
Helen and Hutch moved to Farmington in 1945. During her years in Farmington, Helen worked for a number of local accounting firms and was active in many community affairs. She was Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, was a member of PEO, and was a longtime member of Farmington's First United Methodist Church.
Two children, Eileen Gerding and Jerry Hutchison were born of the marriage. She had three grandchildren, Christine Gerding, Jon Hutchison and David Gerding were Helen's greatest joy and four great-grandchildren, Tyler Hutchison, Brittany Hutchison, Ian Gerding and Benjamin Gerding, who called Helen "Nanny."
There have been so many people who have through their visits and prayers, helped Helen through the last year of her life but no bunch have been more caring and loving than Rebecca Morgan and employees at Namaste House where Helen was made to feel at home.
Memorial services for Helen will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington, 103 East Ute St., in Farmington.
