Harvie Edmisten

February 8, 1922 — October 20, 2014

Harvie W. Edmisten, 92, of Aztec, was called home on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, after a short stay at San Juan Regional Medical Center. Mr. Edmisten was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Farmington, Ark., and later moved to Roswell, where he met his wife, Zonell (Humble) Edmisten, they lived in numerous places, before ending up in Aztec. Harvie took pride in the many things he did. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17, telling them he was 18 in order to get in, and was in the 804th destroyer battalion, where he drove a tank. Harvie talked about his army days more and more as he got older, telling his stories to whoever would listen. After Harvie moved to Aztec, he went to work for Dusenbury's then he opened a body shop of his own, where he worked for many years before selling, and going to work for Southern Union where he stayed at until he retired. An avid fisherman, he could be found fishing Navajo Dam, Lake Powell or the Arkansas River when ever he found a chance; rain or shine his fishing pole was in his hand. Harvie would go on to pass this love of fishing to his daughter and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and golfing, and in the summer months he could be found spending long hours on his beloved garden. Harvie loved children and it showed when his grandchildren were around. His eyes would sparkle as he would tell them stories about the good ol' days, and how things were so different. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. Harvie was preceded in death by his wife Zonell; mother and father, Amanda and Charles Edmisten; brothers and sisters, Bob, Lois, Ruby, Brice, Blanche and Ann. He is survived by his only child, Janet (Edmisten) Hank and husband John; granddaughter Julie Hank and grandson John (Jay) Hank Jr. and wife Jennifer. He also had six great-granddaughters Jessica Hank, Janell and Jonette Sanderson, Samantha, Vanessa and Victoria Hank; and great-great-granddaughters, Julisa, Janessa, Jayne and Jayanna. A celebration of life for family and close friends will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Carl's repair 916 S. Rio Grande Ave. in Aztec. Harvie's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
