Harris C. Atson, 89, of Shiprock, passed from his life Sunday Dec. 15, 2013. He was born March 16, 1924, in Shiprock, to Nocki Yazzie and Ahycitty-bitsih. He was born to the Tachii'nii/Naakaii Dine'e Clan.
Harris was married to Nellie Atson for 65 years. He enjoyed farming with his children, watching western movies. He was devoted and continued to serve with his local VFW Post 9517, song and dance, and taking his grandchildren to school. He loved his family and prayed all the time. He was a Godly man. He listened to KNDN with his wife everyday.
Harris was a World War II veteran. He served in the U.S. Army, as a corporal. He operated the heavy machine Gunner 605, took part in the liberation of Soli, Philippines on the island of Ryukyus. He received the good conduct medal, bronzed arrowhead, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and Victory medal.
He worked for the B.I.A. until he retired.
