Harold Louis Cloer

Harold Louis Cloer was born to Marvin Louis Cloer and Oleta Doherty Cloer on Jan. 14, 1938 in Gainsville, Texas. Harold was raised mainly in Il Paso, Texas where he attended Austin High School.Harold met Carol Ward when they were in High school. She was 16 and he was 18. After they both graduated, they were married on Oct. 25, 1957. Harold worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co. and they moved to different camps. He was an operator and later worked in production. While they raised three daughters, Colleen, Karen and Kimberly; Harold sent Carol to college where she eventually earned a doctorate. Harold was always a hard working man and usually had two jobs at a time. While he worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co. he had an auto repair shop in their home garage. He repaired the rancher's equipment for the section of land where he grazed his cattle. They moved to Aneth, Utah where Carol taught school and Harold tended to the cattle operation and Harold cleared and planted the farm with alfalfa. Carol transferred to the Bloomfield School District. After retirement from the oil field, Harold opened a Hay and Feed Store on Harper Hill and continued farming.Harold also worked part time for his daughter and son-in-law at Dash Hot Shot delivering oil field equipment. When Carol finally retired, they were able to take many trips all over the world and liked to spend the winter in Mexico on the beaches. When he was a home. he took great meeting his old buddies at "The Office", McDonalds, and discussed and solved problems of the world. Hrold was a civic minded person and with the help of Gov. Anaya, straightened out a dangerous curve near Manzaeres. Five Bloomfield students were killed on that curve, no one has died there since then. Harold and four other men wrote a grant to install drinking water to the West Hammond area.Harold met with Gov. King and he approved the grant. Those same men installed a gas line on the West Hammond to feed the irrigation pumps for their farms. Harold also served for about 16 years on the West Hammond Ditch Water Board. Another improvement to the Hammond was a dam built for flood control that he helped build. He was also instrumental in getting cable TV and worked with Charlie Keller in building the Hammon Bridge. He and Carol coached summer softball for abut five years. Harold helped 4-H students with their feed projects and donated hay to the elderly ranchers on the Navajo Reservation. Harold believed strongly in education and made sure his daughters got college degrees. They have subsequently gained advanced degrees. Harold and Carol provided college scholarships for all the grandchildren. Four of them degrees, one is a junior and one will graduate in May. The nine year old has her fund waiting. Scholarships were also provided for people who needed a little helping hand to better help themselves.
