Glenn Dee Crawford passed from this life at age 75, on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, in Kirtland. He attended school in Kirtland and graduated in 1958 from Central High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in March 1959 and made it a career, receiving many awards and achieving the rank of chief petty officer. He did many tours of duty, including the Vietnam War. In 1976, while he was a C.O. at boot camp in San Diego, Calif., he recruited an all-New Mexico company, and it won the honor of participating in the bicentennial parade in Washington, D.C. "Dee" attended Tidewater Junior College in Virginia, while serving on the East Coast and earned an associate degree in secondary education. After 20 years in the Navy, he came home to Kirtland and began a second career with the Southern Union Gas Company. He retired from there and still wanted to work, and he did for several years with Kysar Filters. Dee never met a stranger and was well liked by everyone. He and Janie loved to camp and fish with their grandkids. He also enjoyed watching football and NASCAR.Left to mourn his passing is his beloved wife, Janie; his daughter, Kristal Shaw; son, Richard Crawford; sisters, Kathy (Bud) Attaway, Kim (Darrell) Hunt, April (Garland) Brown and Shannon Vigil; grandchildren Tyler Shaw and Savannah Shaw, Catelyn Crawford, and Austin Crawford; great-grandchildren, Maddisyn and Makela; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dee was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Fay Crawford; brothers, Timothy and Bradley Crawford; and an infant sister, Anne Crawford.According to his wishes, he will be cremated, and no services will be held.
