George Elvin Thomas passed away on April 28, 2021. He was born on February 14, 1927 in Bisbee Arizona to Herman Joseph and Bertha Mortenson Thomas. George served in the Navy for a year during World War II and then the war was over. George and Ruby East married on October 16, 1947 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mesa Arizona Temple.
His profession was a welder, which took him and Ruby all over the Southwest in their travels for his work. Ruby and George settled in Kirtland, NM where he worked for EI Paso Natural Gas for over 35 years. He was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Along with many church callings, he also was Scout Master and served in scouting for many years. George loved the outdoors, he loved to hunt and fish and working with people. George served a mission with his wife Ruby at the family History Center in Salt Lake City. They also supported two of his children on full time missions.
He is survived by his wife Ruby of 73 years; four children: Georgia Fay (Thomas) and late Myron Bigler of Hyrum, UT., Ruby Kristine (Thomas) and Walter Robbins of Las Vegas, NV; Craig Lee Thomas and Amy (Raymond) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Melissa (Thomas) and Jerry Kovach of Rural Valley, PA.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Owen Thomas and Virginia of Kirtland, NM; sister Edith Kendricks of Farmington NM; Preceded in death by one brother Milton Thomas; one sister Elma Thompkins; parents Herman and Bertha Thomas; and one grandchild Cliff Robbins.
There will be a Viewing at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland, NM, 473 CR 6100 on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM-10:45 AM and Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Graveside Interment will be at Kirtland Cemetery after.
