George Edward Neel
June 18, 1931 - June 3, 2015
George Edward Neel was born June 18, 1931, in the town of Lincoln. He was deceased on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, just outside of the town of Flora Vista in San Juan County,. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgetta Neel and one son Greg Neel. Mr. Neel was the youngest son of a family which included three brothers and four sisters all of whom preceded him in death.
Mr. Neel graduated from Ruidoso High School in Ruidoso, in 1950. Later that same year, he married Georgetta Akin in Ruidoso whom he had met and attended school with at Ruidoso High School. Georgetta would become Georgetta Neel as well as his life partner.
In 1970, Mr. Neel and his wife relocated to Farmington, and began to be employed by the San Juan County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. He rose to become the Assistant Road Superintendent and was subsequently promoted to County Road Superintendent. He retired from the Road Department in 1982, and occupied his time building furniture, gardening as well as his life long interests of fishing, camping and involvement with his church. He built two houses in San Juan County with the help of his wife. The first in Farmington at 65 Casa Linda Court, where he lived with his wife until it was decided to build the second house in 1990, outside of Bloomfield in the Mesa Manzano subdivision where he resided with his wife until the time of his death.
He and his wife were members of Grace Baptist Church for many years where he was a former deacon. He was a devout Christian and his wife continues to be a member of that church.
A memorial service commemorating and celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at Grace Baptist Church, 2200 N. Sullivan Ave. in Farmington.
Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
Mr. Neel loved life, God, country, his family and his many friends. Through the years, he touched the lives of countless people. He will be remembered as a great husband, father and true friend. He will be sorely missed.
